Considering a career in consulting but want some more insight? We caught up with one of our current Graduate Consultants, Imogen Flynn, to find out what life is like at Newton as a new recruit...

“I was intrigued by what I’d heard from Newton about working in a supermarket or shipyard one week and with social workers and front-line hospitals the next. It was completely different to anything else I’d heard about and not what I was expecting to do as a consultant. A lot of my friends working in other consultancies just sit in the office ever day, without being hands on or on the ground.

Since joining Newton, I’ve worked on a short-term project looking at how service providers of wheelchairs, crutches and other equipment operate and where there are opportunities for improvement.”

Making an impact

“Now I’m working in one area of the country to improve independence for over 65s: getting more people through reablement services, improving decision making within community teams and helping these teams work better together.

This has meant working with healthcare providers to ensure care workers have the correct information to hand, in order to make the right decision about an elderly person’s package of care. This has led to a process where all care workers come together to share knowledge and best practice so everyone is better informed to ensure that an outcome is right for each patient.“

"As well as the challenging work we’re involved with, we like to socialise too. There are many Newton activities throughout the year - the summer party, Christmas party, review nights, review days, N weekends – and end of assignment celebrations.

Recently, we finished one phase of a project, so we had a night out which involved climbing the O2 and dinner and drinks. The Newton annual ski trip is so much fun – you can bring partners too and Newton will subsidise them – everyone goes into ski teams and dresses up. It’s a great bonding experience."
